We recognize jewellery when we see it. On the body, when it’s taken off the body or by looking only at a picture of it. Jewellery is often defined by recognisable shapes, particular closing mechanisms, size, and proportions. But what happens when the main aspects of jewellery are taken away? Do we pay more attention to what’s normally taken for granted?
Through this project I am exploring boundaries of the contemporary jewellery field, playing with recognition, perception, and imagination, meanwhile questioning my own place in the world of jewellery. Works created in multiple mediums raise questions and invite the viewer to rediscover jewellery from an unexpected perspective.
